Allstate Usage-Based Insurance Discounts

Allstate offers two usage-based programs: Drivewise® and Milewise®. Allstate Drivewise tracks driving habits through a mobile app and rewards drivers with discounts based on speed, braking, phone usage and driving hours. The information collected by the app is used to determine the discount amount you’re eligible for and if you do unsafe habits, your rates won’t increase. 

Allstate’s other usage-based option, Milewise, is a pay-per-mile program available in 21 states. With the program, you pay a daily base rate and an additional rate per mile driven. To use it, you plug the Milewise device into your car’s diagnostic port and use the Allstate mobile app to track your mileage and spending.

Allstate Insurance: Reddit

Many drivers like to share experiences with one another on Reddit, the discussion website. Though it’s not a review site, users will seek advice or provide recommendations on the platform. We looked for Allstate reviews on Reddit to see what people thought of the company in a more conversational setting.

We found that positive reviews tend to cite attentive customer service. Reddit users who posted negative reviews about Allstate spoke of a confusing lack of communication and higher-than-expected rates.

Our reviews team reached out to Allstate for a comment on these negative reviews but did not receive a response.

Allstate Claims Customer Service

In our survey, we found that 33% of Allstate policyholders have filed a claim, while 67% have not. Nearly half of those who filed a claim (48%) said the claim was resolved in under two weeks. Another 34% said it took between two and four weeks. Most said it was easy to file a claim online with Allstate.

Allstate Insurance Mobile App

Allstate’s mobile app lets you access your policies, pay bills, file claims and contact roadside assistance. The iOS version of the app has a 4.8-star rating out of 5 on the Apple App Store. The Android version has a slightly lower rating, with customers on Google Play giving the app a 3.9-star rating out of 5.

Allstate insurance reviews collected in the J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Insurance Shopping Study℠ rank the company slightly below average for its shopping experience compared to other large companies. The insurer scored 664 out of 1,000 points, which means that most Allstate customers are satisfied with their experiences.

Allstate Insurance Reviews: BBB

Allstate holds an A+ rating and a 1.1 out of 5 stars from customer reviews on the BBB. While this number may seem low, just over 1,200 reviewers have rated Allstate on the BBB within the last three years, a small percentage of its overall customer base. We also found the average BBB customer rating is 1.4 stars for the 130 companies we researched.

We reached out to Allstate for a comment on its low customer review scores and below-average J.D. Power scores and didn’t receive a response.
